I have always had a deep rooted interest in health and fitness but up until about 3 years ago I was blissfully unaware of the potential healing effects foods and herbs can have on our body.
I trained as a chartered physiotherapist and became increasingly frustrated when clients with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, appeared to be receiving such disjointed and inadequate care. Many were seeing 4 or 5 different specialists, none of whom were talking to each other and yet I didn't have the knowledge or tools to offer any support.
Around the same time that this was happening I took up running and triathlon. Whilst training for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, October 2014 I began to really feel significantly unwell. Minor digestive issues that had started earlier in the year now really took hold, I was so tired and yet couldn’t sleep. I became increasing more fatigued and more and more flat.
Following numerous visits and a few token tests by my GP, I became disillusioned and more depressed when I was told that there was nothing wrong with me. I decided enough was enough and began researching my symptoms. I was diagnosed with various health issues including: leaky gut, thyroid issues, adrenal issues and more. I stopped exercising, researched food and herbs and began to learn about which ones might help my body recover and how. It was a complete revelation to me. I had never completely acknowledged before that food could be so powerful. I also learnt that making powerful changes didn’t have to include spending a fortune on expensive and difficult to source ingredients or involve spending hours following complex recipes. I loved what I was learning and how my body was responding and began to share my knowledge with my physio clients. I enrolled on a naturopathic nutrition course, gaining a diploma in nutrition.
My training and learning have changed my life in so many ways. I am healthier than I have ever been before. I hope that I can empower you in your journey for a healthy, happy you, by teaching you about the properties of foods and showing you that healthy food can be not only delicious but fun and easy to prepare. My mission is to support you to make the changes that will enrich not just your diet, but your body, mind and soul.
